FOLK-ART WORKSHOPS

On certain Saturday in December, members and friends of the Association come to the Bayway Polish Home in Elizabeth to learn how to make Traditional Polish Christmas Ornaments. Photos One and Two show them busy learning and doing.

The Workshops are given by Secretary of the Association who has taught Polish Folk-Art courses at the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York City. Participants are shown how to create fan-drops, white porcupines and egg-pitchers which are then hung on the Bayway tree by their creators. Photo Three.
The children who attended one workshop created some extras which they donated to the Home Office Tree as seen here.

Another workshop teaches the art of Wycinanki - Polish paper cutting. A centuries-old tradition of decorating peasant huts, today the techniques can be adapted to the contemporary home. Traditional methods and techniques are used and adapted to create designs that can be used in every home.
Adults and children, alike, created Wycinanki in the Kurpie and Lowicz style as shown in these photos.
